Dr. Babcock’s Story

Dr. Michael Babcock grew up in a Christian family in Washington State, USA and gave his heart to the Lord at a young age. Michael’s parents were medical missionaries in Central Africa, and he spent a number of years overseas as a child. Here’s how Dr. Babcock describes his childhood in Africa:

As a child in Central Africa, I didn’t have many books to read and no television to watch. So I read the Bible instead. When I was 12 years old, I read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and then I read it again the next year. What the apostle Paul wrote to Timothy is also true of me: “From childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures” (2 Timothy 3:15). I’ve always believed that God gave me the gift of loving His Word and that He began preparing me for this ministry even when I was a child.

As an adult, Michael continued to be involved in mission work, focusing primarily on training pastors in Southeast Asia. Michael developed the first version of the Anywhere Bible College curriculum in the 2010s. The curriculum has trained hundreds of pastors and church leaders across Southeast Asia.

Michael has taught the Bible on four continents, served as a lay pastor, and currently teaches as a college professor. He is the author of several books on faith and culture, most notably How Can I Believe When I Have So Many Doubts (Harvest House, 2012) and UnChristian American: Living with Faith in a Nation That Was Never under God (Tyndale, 2008).
